Vision & Philosophy

Homemade Gugelhopf made from regional products

Touched by nature. Inspired by simplicity

Welcome to Malcantone.

Three historic Ticino houses in the center of the village of Miglieglia. Carefully preserved and gradually renovated.

Casa Santo Stefano combines a hotel with a retreat center. The house offers a place for restful days and warm hospitality. Architecture, nature, and life within the house are all intertwined. We see simplicity as a virtue—in the space, in the details, and in our interactions with one another.

Our mission

As your hosts, we’ll personally guide you through your stay. Our daily interactions are characterized by our presence, attentiveness, and reliability. We focus on restful sleep, a refined breakfast experience, and spaces where you can unwind and feel at home. We run the Casa with clarity and dedication—so that individual days come together to create a stay that leaves a lasting impression. For guests who travel mindfully and find their own rhythm.

Unique ambience

Each of the three historic houses has its own unique character. Bright loggias seamlessly connect the interior with the surroundings. Guests gather under the pergola to dine together or enjoy a glass of wine. Stone, wood, and handmade ceramics define the rooms. Floral accents add a personal touch to the spaces.

Individual guest experiences

Whether as an individual guest or as part of a retreat, everyone tailors their stay to their own preferences. Some come to hike, read, or take a few days off. Others focus on yoga, qigong, fasting, or creative workshops. Casa provides the setting. How you spend your time here is entirely up to you.

Sustainability and responsibility

For us, responsibility begins in our daily lives. Every decision has an impact on people, the community, and the future. That is why we run Casa in harmony with its surroundings and our region, always keeping in mind the consequences of our actions.

Treating nature, resources, and our environment with respect is part of our daily routine. We work with producers from Ticino and the surrounding area and prioritize regional, seasonal, and organic products. We also use durable materials, avoid plastic whenever reasonably possible, and use biodegradable cleaning products. We continuously invest in energy-efficient solutions and in the responsible use of water and energy. With the Ticino Ticket, our guests can use public transportation throughout the canton free of charge.

We also rely on local craft businesses and partners for renovations and investments. Whenever possible, we hire employees from the surrounding area and create reliable jobs. In this way, we strengthen local economic growth and help ensure that Malcantone remains a vibrant place to live and work.

For us, thinking long-term is simply part of who we are. We continue to develop Casa with care so that it gains character, quality, and authenticity over the years. This includes the careful maintenance of the historic buildings as well as making decisions that will still be appropriate tomorrow.

We see sustainability as a journey that guides us. The independent sustainability certification program ibex fairstay helps us draw inspiration from new ideas and continue on our path with purpose.

Guest feedback

Feedback from our guests is valuable to us. It helps us stay attentive and continue to run the Casa thoughtfully.

Future and further development

The Casa is constantly evolving as we gain new experiences. Feedback from our guests, new insights, and long-term projects help us enhance the quality of our offerings, foster teamwork, and continuously improve the organization of our establishment. Every change is designed to preserve the character of the Casa and enrich our guests’ stay.

Openness and respect

We welcome people from all walks of life and at different stages of life. We treat one another with openness, respect, and consideration. This creates a place where everyone can feel at ease and find peace in their own way.
