The Art of Not Having a Plan

When our guests arrive, we often ask them, “Do you have anything planned for the next few days?” Surprisingly often, the answer is, “No, not really.”

In the past, that probably would have surprised us. Today, we’re happy about it. Because time and again, we’ve noticed that these guests, in particular, leave feeling especially relaxed.

They decide on the spur of the moment what they feel like doing. Maybe the day will take them on a hiking trail in Malcantone. Maybe they’ll spend a few hours by the river or at one of the lakes. Maybe they’ll discover a little grotto or simply stroll through the narrow streets of Miglieglia.

Without a set plan, something unexpected often happens. Not every day of vacation has to be packed with activities. Sometimes it’s enough to get back into your own rhythm and let the day take you by surprise. Maybe that’s exactly what makes a break so luxurious—not having to do everything.

After all, it’s often precisely these unplanned moments that stay with us the longest.
